Transition lenses are photochromic lenses that automatically darken when exposed to sunlight and return to clear indoors. They contain special molecules that react to UV light, adjusting the tint based on light conditions to protect your eyes.
Benefits of Transition Lenses
Convenience
No need to switch between glasses and sunglasses.
UV Protection
Blocks 100% of harmful UVA and UVB rays.
Comfort
Reduces glare and eye strain from bright light.
Versatility
Ideal for everyday wear, indoors and outdoors.
Why Choose Transition Lenses?
Transition lenses offer seamless protection and comfort for those who move frequently between indoor and outdoor environments.
They simplify your eyewear needs by combining clear vision and sun protection in one pair.

Types of Transition Lenses at JOA Optical
Gen S
Fast-reacting lenses that darken quickly in sunlight and clear rapidly indoors.
Xtractive
Darker tint for intense sunlight, suitable for people who spend more time outdoors.
Xtractive Polarized
Combines darkening and polarized technology for clear, glare-free vision.
Do Transition Lenses Activate in the Car?
Transition lenses require UV light to activate. Since most car windshields block UV rays, standard Transition lenses typically do not darken inside the car.
However, some specialized lenses are designed to activate behind the windshield and may offer this functionality. Side windows may allow some activation depending on their UV filtering.
